Freestone Design-Build
Our New Apprentice: Joel Sawyer
Updated: Dec 3, 2020

In August, we welcomed a new team member, Joel Sawyer, as an Apprentice. Joel has been busy working alongside Scott Freestone and Logan Freestone, quickly learning our building and skilled craftsmanship techniques. He works through each phase of a project with them, both removing and installing. Throughout his time with us, Joel has been highly committed to hands-on development of his skills and knowledge and is on the fast track to take on bigger projects.
Joel is a Colorado native, having grown up in Summit County. He’s a true mountain guy who loves all of the rich outdoor recreation that Colorado has to offer, including skiing, hiking, mountain biking, and also taking on projects where he works with his hands. He studied Exercise Science at CSU through 2019, but made a huge career change. He became interested in Construction as he explored avenues outside of his academic field. He said, “I realized I would need to attend graduate school, based on my path of study and the changing healthcare field.” From there, Joel launched his exploration that led him into our industry and ultimately to his new position. Prior to coming on board with us, Joel worked as a cross country ski coach at a private club in Summit County and was a mountain biking coach for the Town of Frisco, CO.
We asked Joel what he loves about this job and he commented, “I am constantly able to work with my hands. This job requires a tremendous amount of problem solving and out of the box thinking, which I really enjoy. I also love seeing the transformation of a project from start to finish.”
Joel’s future looks bright! We are happy to have him on our team and look forward to seeing him expand his skill set while learning from the best!
